Cheering on .......

Hey there !

We are back in a zipp .....

Now, you can't go wrong when you have food, games, prizes, and we even throw in a tiara and crown !

ESSB celebrated the dual auspicious occasions of the Aidil Fitri and Independence Day. Yes, regardless of your political choices, this land of fortune did no wrong. We are all here 'cari makan or cari rezeki' - so this land provides us with opportunities and for us to prosper. Honor thy country, and the country will honor you in return.

Coming back to the dual celebrations, we decided to gather everyone at the HQ for a merriment. Pot-luck was the concept for the gathering. The main organizer was kinda worried about whether there will be enough food to feed those hungry mouths when we saw initial lukewarm responses from the respective departments. But our prayers answered when there were plenty very delicious food which everyone can go for even the third takings. So bless with our generosity and the wise man says 'sikit-sikit boleh jadi bukit' materializes this quote. Well it was a simple gathering  - nothing upscale, uberlicious nor even luxe, but the energy .... you gotta to be here to feel it. The smiles, the smell of foods, the enthusiastic, the sight of pretty lasses and obedient gentlemen mingling, chatting, chilling in the most well-behaved  social manner without compromising the fun and the festive cheers.

Ok, I know, I went overboard with my writing again, so let's take a look at those pictures as picture reveals a thousand words (so why am I wasting words here). Enjoy the show .......

Let's walk down memory lane for the first half 2013

Hey there ... !

We were hibernating and we missed spring. By the time we were awake, summer was half gone. Yawnnn .... There are just too many happenings around the globe, same goes in our Company. So much so, we do not know where to start, how to begin, what to share, when to reveal. And worse off, this will be my first attempt in blogging. Oh by the way, my genuine  readers, this is me, the new facilitator of the blog. No worries, you will get to know me. So just be patience and I promise this Company blog is going to be better as it progress.

We are going to start this new phase of the blog with something lengthy. Yes, we know, size does matter, so is the performance, errmm ... or rather the contents in this context. By the way, did we mention that this blog could be rated 18-SX? It will be at times, just to keep you guys 'alert' and asking for more from this blog. Well, in a good way, let's say we want you to read, to know what's happening around the Company, around us, around our community, etc, etc.

So let's open the door and windows and pull the drapes and let us bring out the pandora box which we have been digging  .....................

MARCH 2013

COMMUNITY HALL

ESSB  introduced for the first time Community Hall to its staff members - a formal communication process which allows the Management to obtain information from the ground. It's an open forum based on selected topics for the session so that the Management can get the feedbacks from the floor for continuous organizational improvement, adopt best practices and better workplace. The first Community Hall was presented on 22nd March 2013 with the topics 'what do you like about ESSB?' and 'what do you want to see improvement in ESSB?' A total of 38 staff members from the HQ participated in two sessions. The findings were presented to the Managing Director, Mr Mikel Yaw, and thereon to the rest of the Departmental Heads in HQ.

The findings gave the Management interesting insights of what are the likes and wish-lists. And from the results, we refreshed our staff benefits and introduced new ones for the betterment of everyone in the Company.

FAREWELL

We ended the 1st quarter of 2013 with the retirement of our Cleaning Lady, Madam Parameswari. Aunty Parameswari has been cleaning the Company for the past 9 years. Even though she only worked as part-time  basis, she cleaned the whole double shop-lot of 3 floors with ease and rendered her services so well to all of us in the premises. To thank her commitment and dedication, the Company organized a simple farewell do for her on her last day, 29th March2013. Our Senior Finance Manager, SK Lai, together with Catherine, our former HR & Admin Manager, representing the Management, presented her with some gifts as our token of appreciation for keeping our workplace and environment spick and span.

 APRIL 2013

REFRESHED AND NEW STAFF BENEFITS

Launching the New and Refreshed Benefits for ESSB.

With the theme, 'small changes can make a big different', ESSB launched its new and refreshed staff benefits on 18 & 19 April. About 52 staff members attended the two briefing sessions. There were many 'ooohs' and aaahhs' (no, no, it is not what you are thinking) in our Crystal Room, and of course  smiling faces of satisfaction that brighten the semi-darken room. We introduced some good new benefits such as the Birthday Leave, Paternity Leave, besides refreshing our Annual Leave, Marriage Leave and Optical benefit. Overall, the staff members welcome such lil' changes as this reveals better things on the way !

SHARING KNOWLEDGE

HR organized a learning session on Employment Act 1955 for the managers in the HQ on 23 & 25 April. This course is to impart pertinent details about our local labor law and its implication if an employer does not comply. We start the course by getting to know the history of the Act, and how it was derived and made use in the current context. We also touched on the differences of employment contracts, payment of wages, probationer termination, type of leave, etc. The participants of the course were quite interactive throwing questions and sharing their experiences in handling some issues on their subordinates. This is an effective way of learning, as sharing is caring.

JUNE 2013

WORK LIFE EFFECTIVENESS

We watched movie and we chicken ran Sunway Lagoon. We temporary became the Man of Steel, then zzooomm, we ran like chicken balancing an egg in an ice-cream cone. That was fun. Yes, it's chillax and bonding time again. All work and no play make Jack and Jill boooringg.

The Roasters Chicken Run also touted as our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity because for every participation, the organizer will contribute RM13 towards the Little Yellow Flower Foundation, a charitable body that offers underprivileged children the opportunity of a better future through love, happiness, good nutrition and better education. There were 10 reps from the Company took part in this feel good activity. Cheer on ....... !

Yes, we felt that we need to solidify the unity of our teammates - so we have our T-shirt Day on the 1st Friday every month effective July. Besides making good use of the T-shirt, we hope to 'publicize' our brand in this vicinity and that we can make a different in this community. Hope you feel the energy like we did ......
